Giclée printed reproduction of an original oil painting
Figure skating axel jump in motion
Pastel pink and light gold tones
200gsm high quality art paper with a matte finish
Part of a mini series of oil studies I painted of the six 2024 Figure Skating Grand Prix women's finalists, this print was inspired by Rino Matsuike (松生 理乃) of Japan. Each painting from the series features the axel jump from that skaters short program, painted in motion above the ice. I painted them as a celebration of the incredible athletic accomplishments of these women who have reached the peak of their sport, as well as the variety of emotions they bring to the ice in their performances, from delicate and gentle, explosive and powerful and everything in between.
Rino Matsuike's 2024/25 short program is delightfully earnest and yearning, her elegant movements on the ice appear dainty and almost fragile even as she springs powerfully into the air, snapping into the speedy rotation of her jump. I aimed to capture this dichotomy in the study by pulling the pastel pink tones out around her body to illustrate the speed of her movement, while keeping the colour palette soft, her dark hair providing the only strong point of contrast.

I pack paintings for shipping with several layers of plastic, paper, bubble wrap and cardboard for their safety. Wherever possible I try to recycle the packing materials used to ship my supplies and canvases to me, but I do generally use packing tape, and seal the painting in a single use plastic shipping bag. If you'd prefer that I ship your painting with no single use plastics, or even no plastic at all, send me a message after your order and I'll do what I can to accommodate!
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested in a custom painting - I'll work with you to create something that lines up with your vision including providing you with digital mock up's before I start painting so you can rest assured that I understand what you're looking for. Bear in mind custom oil paintings can take several months to complete depending on size.
