Giclée printed reproduction of an original oil painting
Figure skating sit spin
Denim blue, silver, peach and pink-red
200gsm high quality art paper with a matte finish
Figure skating is often perceived as a gentle and feminine sport and ensuring that movements appear light and effortless is frequently a necessity of their performances. Because of this it's easy to forget the incredible physical strength required to make something so effortful and difficult look delicate and easy. I chose this moment from Loena Hendrickx layback spin for a study because of the beautiful definition visible in her arm muscles as she pulls them down and away from her body against the centripetal force generated by the speed of her spin. She is gentle, beautiful and elegant and strong, powerful and tough - a perfect embodiment of women's figure skating. My aim with the study was to capture that spirit in form and colour, using both strong and light brushstrokes, combing saturated and gentle colours, and emphasising her physicality in the movement.
Notes:
Original image is 18x24cm and will be cropped to fit paper size.

I pack paintings for shipping with several layers of plastic, paper, bubble wrap and cardboard for their safety. Wherever possible I try to recycle the packing materials used to ship my supplies and canvases to me, but I do generally use packing tape, and seal the painting in a single use plastic shipping bag. If you'd prefer that I ship your painting with no single use plastics, or even no plastic at all, send me a message after your order and I'll do what I can to accommodate!
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested in a custom painting - I'll work with you to create something that lines up with your vision including providing you with digital mock up's before I start painting so you can rest assured that I understand what you're looking for. Bear in mind custom oil paintings can take several months to complete depending on size.
