Part of a mini series of oil studies I painted of the six 2024 Figure Skating Grand Prix women's finalists, this painting was inspired by Yoshida Hana of Japan. Each painting from the series features the axel jump from that skaters short program, painted in motion above the ice. I painted them as a celebration of the incredible athletic accomplishments of these women who have reached the peak of their sport, as well as the variety of emotions they bring to the ice in their performances, from delicate and gentle, explosive and powerful and everything in between.
Yoshida Hana's 2024/25 short program has incredible energy and focus, building heart pumping momentum with the music. Painted in cool, saturated blues with strong warm skin tones I used contrast of tone and light to create a striking image of her jumping pass, that I hope captures the juxtaposition of lightness and ferocity that Hana's skating brings to the ice.
This painting is sold unframed and unmounted. I would advise mounting and framing the artwork behind glass to protect the painting for years to come.

I pack paintings for shipping with several layers of plastic, paper, bubble wrap and cardboard for their safety. Wherever possible I try to recycle the packing materials used to ship my supplies and canvases to me, but I do generally use packing tape, and seal the painting in a single use plastic shipping bag. If you'd prefer that I ship your painting with no single use plastics, or even no plastic at all, send me a message after your order and I'll do what I can to accommodate!
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested in a custom painting - I'll work with you to create something that lines up with your vision including providing you with digital mock up's before I start painting so you can rest assured that I understand what you're looking for. Bear in mind custom oil paintings can take several months to complete depending on size.
